He didn't ask why it took so long to make it. He is talking at a metaphysical level as to why people are obsessed with time. Considering his first band were in their element at the same time as MBV I'm sure he's aware of all the stories.

This is despite Kevin Shields spending his entire career lying in interviews and playing jokes on journalists. These guys are friends and have massive respect for each other; the joke is on people like you who take it with a white-knuckled sincerity.

this interviewer and program is apparently legit... some people actually have respect for this interviewer. the title here sums this up. 'soft focus' on accuracy, skill and respect for such an interesting musician as Kevin Shields. the interviewer comes up with the most convoluted pieces of crap ever! goddamn you wish you could just punch him in the face...
